As Luck Would Have It is part of a larger body of work that explores personal narratives and the way these are driven by both the flukes of genetics and pure chance. The astronomical number of genetic dice rolls that make an individual unique are mind-boggling. The fact that any one of us is here, in this moment, is an unrepeatable statistical anomaly that usually goes unappreciated between work hours and the business of living. This piece is comprised of 77 porcelain dice, one for each year of the average American’s life, and is intended to return our attention to mere existence as a matter of good fortune — despite the odds, here we are.
