We as human beings are composed of layers, manifested through time as we grow and develop in life. Our “human layers” can be likened to the layers of surface built up on the walls in an old home. Some layers covered and hidden, some revealed through wear, age, and time. I strive to show these layers through multiple surface treatments from pre-firing to post firing. My work allows the viewer to see a glimpse into my life, using imagery and content that is intentionally vague. I allow an idea to dictate the method of building, from forming to finishing to firing. I enjoy the freedom not pigeonholing myself as a maker of a specific form, method or process. This freedom allows me to become life-long learner; constantly challenging myself to explore new options. The importance of craftsmanship, depth of surface, and a thorough attentiveness to form is in the forefront of my mind regardless of the final result.
