Annie Rhodes Lee

It has always intrigued me how we narrate our surroundings into existence, how we create metaphors and images that bind us to each other and ground us to the earth. In the Metropolitan Museum there is a diminutive clay sculpture of an imposing woman sitting cross-legged who stares intelligently at the viewer. While she was formed in 12C BC Mexico she still speaks clearly about her community as well our own. My work is guided by the belief that cultural objects reflect the perspectives that will reshape our understandings across time and place.
