Over time, my relationship with clay has been a balancing act and I like my work to invoke the same sentiment. I aim to create balance between form, color, texture and scale that produces a sense of ease and simplicity. My work is a collection of thrown shapes assembled to emphasize the simple geometry of the individual forms. Slip trailing on portions of each sculpture accentuate the contours and silhouettes. The use of spikes next to smooth surfaces creates a feeling of balance, space and contrast. These pieces are fully vitrified, naked white porcelain and brown mid-fire clay. Deliberate use of naked clay bodies serves to highlight the uncomplicated nature of the forms. There is nothing overly complex about my work, but it is the simplicity that I hope draws viewers in.
