I make ceramic tableware and household items, mostly on the wheel. I make pieces to be handled and used, with the goal that they will bring comfort, beauty, and joy to those using them. I’m inspired by historic pottery as well as current trends. I’m particularly drawn to the forms and finishes in Japanese and Korean ceramics. I am influenced by the colors, patterns, and textures found in nature. I love the rhythm of making pots. I enjoy the focus required. Each step - throwing, trimming, decorating, glazing - is like a meditation. As the piece develops, time flies and outside thoughts fall away. The process is as satisfying to me as the finished product. I am thrilled when one of my finished pots “speaks” to another person. It is immensely gratifying when someone tells me that they routinely reach for one of my mugs for their morning coffee, or that they always use one of my bowls for their fruit and yogurt breakfast. I personally use and cherish pottery made by other artists and it’s an honor to be part of that relationship. I hope that people will take as much pleasure in living with and using my pottery as I feel in making it.
