Memory has a heavy role in my artistic practice. Curating objects for duplication, I look to elements of the natural world as well as items from my home that hold strong ties to my family’s personal history or stand to symbolize a relationship or emotion. Using the time-intensive process of replication, I am able to relive memories as well as better understand members of my own family by studying what they held dear. The flexible nature of clay allows me to create these forms through sculptural and reductive techniques; ripping into the clay, carving, and layering, to highlight the evidence of use and wear present on the objects I study. I rely heavily on the process of monoprinting to create surfaces that mimic the method of production for the labels and advertisements used on the original products and their packaging. I prefer to organize the individual objects into groups when they are finished, creating micro still lives.
