The inspiration for my ceramics is drawn from the natural world of animals and plants, and from the speculative stories we conceive of monsters and aliens. My passion lies in hand-made sculpture that is intimately held, observed from different angles, eliciting various emotional responses, provoking story telling, and technically challenging to execute. My work is also the outcome of experimentations with a non-traditional clay body, porcelain paper clay. I embrace the properties of this material to create unique textures and forms that are lightweight, delicate and organically expressive. This medium offers me the opportunity to push the boundaries of sculpture by creating ultra thin pieces that do not crack during kiln firing, to extend the object making stage by continuously adding more clay during its bone dry stage, and to explore a variety of methods to create objects.
