Randi Wolfman

I am an artist and art educator, whose primary artistic pursuit is sculpture. I predominately utilize the media of handmade paper and clay, for their tactile and versatile nature lend themselves to the sensuality and simplicity of my pieces. Generally, my work centers on the feminine, the organic, and often reflects themes related to the body. Much of my work involves a direct representation of the physical. These pieces relate the body in its entirety or separation of its parts, and intonate themes such as the its ingestion of emotion, the affect of pain on the body/spirit, or the desire for sensuality. The second lineage of work depicts pure, organic forms which maintain curvaceous lines and simplified color. These pieces emphasize the beauty of material and form, and evoke sensuality and wholeness. All of my pieces tell a story, whether directly or indirectly, related to the body and its experiences. Currently, I work as an art teacher in the Newark Public Schools, in Newark, N.J. I have been teaching elementary and middle school art there for 21 years.
