Jeannie Pappas

Jeannie Pappas is a ceramic sculptor based in Toronto, Canada. Working primarily in porcelain clay, she creates narrative-based figures that convey individual and archetypal stories. Jeannie is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and has studied at both Sheridan College School of Craft & Design and Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. After exploring various mediums in her early education, Jeannie found in clay a material that allowed her inner self a place to grow. She approaches clay with an overriding respect for its internal life, its memory, its instability, its fickleness, nourishing its cracks and fissures. By using underglazes and washes that embellish its natural hew, each piece offers a sense of being alive: raw and authentic. The pieces mirroring aspects of the human journey to self-realization: coarse and unpredictable.
