Cassie Pena

Cassie Renee Peña is a self-taught ceramic artist whose focus is on functional-conceptual pieces that evoke existential and spiritual themes through the practice of repetition in form, color, language and texture. Bridging the relationship between use and meaning in craft, her pottery is meant as a form of play and meditation that is just as much about the process of creation as it is the process of use. Her practice builds off traditional ceramic forms but takes inspiration from fiber arts, poetry, fashion and internet culture. Her work seeks to investigate humanity specifically the interior emotional world. She has an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Expressive Arts Therapy from Appalachian State University. She currently resides in Philadelphia, PA.
