I make functional pottery by applying bands of white and colored slip to terra cotta forms. When the thrown bowls, vases, and goblets are leather hard, I use sgraffito technique--drawing freehand geometric patterns into the clay surface with a tool. Some pieces were made by attaching two thrown parts together. The surface decoration is influenced subliminally by ancient motifs.
