Small Work No. 99 is part of a series of 100 small works completed over an 18-month period ending in April 2026. The chawan-inspired form is hand built from stoneware and layered with heavily textured porcelain slip that is intentionally cracked and torn. Iron oxide washes and color-reactive dark brown slip markings are applied beneath layers of glaze, including turquoise drips and shino glazes. The cracked surface, glaze movement, and variation in color emphasize the material transformations that occur during cone 10 reduction firing.
