Small Work No. 63 is a chawan-inspired vessel hand built from stoneware with a surface texture created from layers of porcelain slip that is cracked and stretched over the form. The piece was fired multiple times at cone 6 to develop the metallic bronze, blue-green and black tonal variations across the surface. Flowing glazes move through the textured cracks and seams, creating areas of depth, pooling, and contrast that shift depending on the light and angle of view.
