Porcelain keepsake box features a hummingbird nest on the lid which contains two eggs and a removable hummingbird. The piece was wheel-thrown, trimmed, altered and carved before the nest is added to the lid. The nest and bird were created with porcelain paper clay and nichrome wire; the nest was decorated with porcelain “lichen” that I created using slip mixed with mason stain. The interior glaze color was color matched to the lichen. After the glaze fire, both the bird and nest are decorated with acrylic ink.
