One-of-a-kind thrown and altered ceramic vessel made during a residency in Longquan, China, the birthplace of celadon glaze. The work is made from the region’s porcelain-like, historic, “Little Brother Clay” and a local, secret light blue celadon recipe paired with iron oxide on the textured surface. Ming Dynasty styles influenced the form of the pot. Subtle shifts in color and texture evoke mineral deposits and the color of the sky. The pieces function as intimate material studies, reflecting the artist’s ongoing interest in landscape, cultural memory, and the relationship between natural forces and human intervention.
