Red Rocks Reflection, 2024 Ceramic, fired in La Serra Anagama 2.75 x 2.75 x 1” My most recent work was fired in the La Serra Collective Anagama kiln during my recent artist residency in Denver, where I reconnected with my artistic voice and focused on abstract shapes and forms that define my work—This piece, Red Rocks Reflection, was made as a model or maquette of a larger form to come. I created the piece stemming from shapes drawn in my sketchbooks, where I begin most of my work. I began with a shape on paper and then mirrored it on its horizontal axis, creating a repeated and reflected form. I translated the flat drawing into a dimensional piece, made out of a white clay body. For its finish, I dipped it in a flashing slip and fired the work with the Collective, participating in the week-long firing process from start to finish.
