This piece, Different from What It Seems, is crafted using discarded plastic forks and recycled aluminum cans. The top portion of the piece is created from plastic forks, which were collected from school cafeterias. Through heat manipulation, I transformed the prongs of the forks into organic, abstract shapes that mimic natural forms. The base and ring components are made by casting recycled aluminum cans, a material commonly found on streets and in trash bins due to widespread consumption of carbonated beverages. The aluminum was melted and shaped to create the sturdy foundation and finger rings of the piece. By combining these two materials—plastic forks and aluminum cans—this work highlights the potential of repurposing everyday, discarded objects into meaningful, artistic jewelry. It reflects my commitment to sustainability and my exploration of the possibilities inherent in unconventional materials.
