The Fractured States of America – Hope for Healing is a sculpture made with layered slabs of porcelain, as well as sodium silicate, oxide, underglazes, and clear glaze. The piece was created within days of the 2024 U.S. presidential election. The front of the sculpture is an artistic representation of the final electoral map, and the political polarization that has developed in the country. The back has a carved heart in purple underglaze. It signifies the love Americans – whether conservative, liberal, or independent – have for their country. It also represents hope that our deeply divided country will heal and unite.
