The children of Homo-Consumus are metaphors for modern people, seized by simulated material desires that are perpetually visible, and seeking the meaning of life in the splendid virtual reality created by the consumer society. As a society we tend to consume, ignorant of the actual reality which is the original, and which still exists below our virtual world. We have similar collective tendencies for other destructive behaviours: perpetually running after virtual, fictitious goals and consuming everything that we believe will bring us happiness and enhance our lives. Homo-Consumus literally translates to 'human beings who consume'. In reality, these behaviours may all eventually sacrifice our ultimate goal of happiness by chasing after the fool's gold of artificial desires.
