These teeth are from a larger installation "The Tooth Fairy Jar" which featured a large 3ft Ceramic Jar and over 300 teeth. The inspiration came from a drawing I made when I was 5 to which it asked "What does the Tooth Fairy do with all of her teeth?" To which 5-year-old me responded "She puts them in a jar" and with blue and black crayons I drew a jar with teeth on the front of it. I started to question things about the tooth fairy. Why do most people think of the tooth fairy as a woman? What does the tooth fairy do with all of the teeth? I started to think about the terminology of the word fairy, its historical context within the queer community. I wanted to reclaim that word for myself. Become the tooth "fairy" and play dress up with my little queer teeth, accentuating them with gold, barbie shoes, and giving them leg hair of course. Together these teeth forge their own community and become an act of reclamation and expression of queer joy.
