Sam McCall

As a ceramicist, I spend my time creating work that transcribes my perspective further into a viewer’s reality. I am very aware of my surroundings and attribute that to my creative process. The primary focus is to portray what I take in through forms others can understand. Inspiration comes from shapes that the chaos of ordinary things establish. What I observe gets converted into an entity that needs to be explored. Working with clay and being able to manipulate the material with my hands inspires the forms and objects I ultimately create. Often, I go into a piece with little idea of what the finished work will look like, but I find that it’s more inspiring and often more successful than when I try to force the medium into my detailed vision. I try with every finished piece to curate an experience for the viewer that’s outside of their realm while seemingly blending right into their fantasy of life. kc mcc
