Jessica Suarez

I am a Ceramic artist and Industrial Designer with eight years of experience in ceramic production, design, and education. My practice centers on functional, wheel-thrown objects that operate as vessels for storytelling, material inquiry, and lived experience. I approach clay as both a utilitarian and expressive medium. Originally from Colombia, I founded Elemental Ceramic Studio in Bogotá, where I led production and teaching, developing a practice grounded in functional design and material sensitivity. I am currently based in Boston, working as a Production Potter at Jill Rosenwald Studio, an experience that has refined my understanding of production systems, consistency, and precision while honoring the individuality inherent in handmade workAlongside my studio practice, I have contributed to ceramic education as a teaching assistant, studio technician, and studio monitor at various studios in the Boston area, including the Ceramics Studio at Harvard University. In 2024, I participated in the Technical Education Program in Ceramics at Mudflat Pottery Studio (Somerville, MA), where I deepened my training in studio management, equipment maintenance, and technical operation. My work exists at the intersection of production and exploration, technical discipline and cultural memory, creating functional objects that speak to permanence, use, and everyday rituals, while reflecting the experience of working across geographies, traditions, and ways of making. With a background in industrial design, I am increasingly interested in 3D clay printing as a research and exploratory tool, investigating the tension between controlled systems and the inherent unpredictability of clay.
