Fred Henzel

My art practice starts in moments of observation while going about my everyday life. I’m often struck by the patterns in the overlooked and unassuming elements of life like crosswalks, foliage, windows, and sewer grates to name a few. Once in the studio, I use these patterns as inspiration to decorate my wheel-thrown forms and use a combination of tape resist, embellishments, and glaze stippling to create tactile surfaces. My hope for my ceramics is to preserve a moment of consideration and to have that be felt by the people using my wares.
