Savanah Conrad

My work is shaped by a childhood marked by instability and survival. Through ceramics, I find structure and clarity by combining wheel-thrown and hand-built forms, blending organic and geometric shapes. This process reflects resilience built over time, much like clay itself. I create abstract, machine-like forms that explore what it means to live within systems that govern human life. While these systems promise progress and efficiency, they often distort reality and create distance between people. My work highlights a metaphorical tension where handmade qualities meet mechanical precision. By minimizing visible marks of the hand, I challenge traditional expectations of ceramics, as well as ideas of perfection, control, and agency. This absence invites reflection on what is lost or gained, when human presence is withheld.
