Terry Sherman

At this stage in my life, I find myself focused on growth, reflection, and a deeper commitment to my artistic practice. My work has become both an exploration of medium and an extension of my appreciation for the natural world. Through sculpture and painting, I explore the relationship between humans, animals, and nature. I am drawn to the beauty, movement, and symbolic presence of animals, using my work to evoke wonder, empathy, and connection. Inspired by mythology, folklore, and the diversity of the animal kingdom, I create pieces that celebrate both living and extinct species while highlighting their place within the balance of nature. Research and observation are central to my process. I spend time studying anatomy, movement, behavior, and habitat to better understand the creatures I depict. This allows my work to carry a sense of authenticity while leaving space for abstraction and surrealist interpretation. When creating a piece, I carefully consider how it will be experienced from every angle. I believe successful sculpture should engage viewers from all viewpoints, encouraging closer observation and discovery. I thoughtfully plan each work from start to finish, deciding which surfaces will remain raw, which will be glazed or painted, and where mixed media elements may strengthen the final composition. Whether depicting the movement of a whale, the curve of a tentacle, or the gaze of a bird, my goal is to create work that encourages curiosity and emotional connection. Ultimately, I seek to capture not only the physical form of each creature, but also a sense of its spirit and presence, fostering a deeper appreciation for the complexity and beauty of life on Earth.
