My ceramic sculptures explore the body as a condition of pressure, sensation, and transformation. Rather than representing the body directly, I construct forms that feel bodily through layering, compression, accumulation, and movement. Working primarily through handbuilding and coiling, I have developed my own method of construction in which layering, color, and form emerge together rather than as separate stages. I work directly with multiple clay bodies, mason stains, and underglazes during construction, allowing material variation to become embedded within the form itself. Glaze is introduced later as an additional layer that can obscure, reveal, or intensify the surface. Through this process, surfaces become records of contact, resistance, and material change. My background in drawing continues to shape how I think through density, rhythm, and movement. Coils extend the logic of line into three dimensions, allowing drawing to become bodily, material, and spatial. At a small scale, these sculptures invite close and bodily viewing. I am interested in how an object that can fit within the palm of a hand alters physical awareness and creates a more intimate relationship between object and body. Condensed forms can hold contradictory experiences at once: fragility and force, attraction and discomfort, softness and instability. Within this tension, clay becomes a way to evoke bodily experience without resolving it into fixed form.
