Carol Conway

I am a NYC-based ceramic artist drawing inspiration from the intersection of Chinese aesthetics and the pastel dreamscape of 1990s Sailor Moon. My work invites viewers to delve into imagined spaces of hazy softness—worlds that celebrate the fantastical within the mundane, the preciousness of childlike wonder, and quiet joy. These pieces function as refuges: places to be soothed, restored, and gently held. They echo Chinese mythology and garden-scapes—environments you can mentally step into and inhabit. My forms are shaped by comfort and playfulness: waves, rotund curves, full-bodied gourds that spill and fold around the viewer. Though soft and inviting, they are protective and strong—like icing on a cake that is secretly sharp. These works act as magical portals and small pauses in time, offering moments of sweetness, tenderness, and self-tending.
