Gayle Antonides

Gayle Antonides is a self-taught potter, first introduced to the art and the concept of art meeting social work at Key West High School over ten years ago. After traveling and teaching art in Haiti, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Panama, they attended Florida A&M University and earned their BSM before returning to their life-long home in the Keys to begin a pottery business. Gayle opened a physical store front and studio where they taught over 200 students visiting from around the world for over two years before closing shop and becoming a ceramics and art 2D teacher at their alma mater, Key West High School. Gayle has participated in and held shows at prestigous Key West galleries such as The Studios of Key West and JAG Gallery. Recently Gayle re-opened theor business on a much smaller scale, intending to create art in more mediums than just ceramics. Currently Gayle creates their work from a mid-range ceramic stoneware, and has retired wheel-throwing temporarily, in order to slow down and fall back in love with the process of making with clay. This means the work you see now is hand built, made using only hands and tools, no electric wheel. Gayle also enjoys wet felting with wool, crocheting, quilting and sewing, painting, and print making.
