I make decorated, functional pottery. Patterns are my obsession: they can transform a few motifs into infinite possibilities. Each piece is wrapped in waves, flames, flowers, and other shapes that emerge intuitively or in response to the form. There’s no special meaning behind these symbols, but they’re fun to draw and seem to resonate with people on an instinctual level. It’s exciting when someone turns a cup over in their hands and shares what they see! Craftsmanship is also a growing focus in my practice. It’s a special feeling to pick up an object and literally feel—in the angle of the rim, the curve of the handle, the finish of the foot—how someone took the time to curate your experience with it.
