Dina Schmidt

I am exploring the concepts of vulnerability and protection. How do objects and memories take on preciousness? How do we protect them? The representation of a house or church in my work symbolizes safety and security. These shelters represent an environment that protects cherished tangible and intangible treasures. Most pieces are slab built and Raku fired or finished with encaustics. I often include found objects in my work. Visual inspiration comes from Byzantine iconography and Greek culture.
