My work delves into the significant yet often overlooked contributions of women throughout history, particularly in fields traditionally dominated by men. By bringing these women into the spotlight, I am demonstrating that women have always been leaders and innovators, deserving of recognition and celebration. The grungy, violent style of the surface decoration disrupts traditional notions of women as passive or submissive figures. This visual harshness is intentional, evoking a sense of resistance to their unequal treatment. The form of the vessel itself, with its rounded, organic shape, echoes the female form. This brings attention to the fact that femininity does not equal weakness or submission. The vessels invite the audience to question their own familiarity with these figures, many who will not be recognized, despite their significant impact. With this body of work I encourage the audience to confront the gaps in their understanding of history. This representation is not only essential for inspiring and empowering current and future generations but also for fostering a more equitable society where all voices are acknowledged and valued.
