Lillian Frances

My journey with clay began in the sixth grade when my art teacher introduced me to the joy of hand-building and throwing on the wheel. Though I didn’t touch clay again until 2006, I always carried that spark with me. Over the years, I honed my skills, first at Lill Street Art Center and eventually as a teacher there. For seventeen years, I ran Laugh Out Loud, a comedy club in Schaumburg, Illinois, where I had the incredible fortune of working alongside some of the most creative people I’ve ever known. Pottery was my escape—a grounding practice that allowed me to unplug from the fast-paced, high-energy world of entertainment and running a business. Whether throwing large, functional pieces or perfecting my technique, clay became my meditative space, where I could center myself and find calm. The pandemic was a turning point. When the world paused, my Laugh Out Loud family gifted me a miniature pottery wheel. This small, whimsical tool became a symbol of resilience, and I threw myself into crafting one-inch pots with newfound enthusiasm. There is something uniquely intimate about these tiny vessels—their minute scale invites a deep focus and a playful exploration of form and function. It was during this time that I truly found my voice as an artist, diving headlong into the art of miniature pottery. In April 2024, I closed the physical venue of Laugh Out Loud, but my love for creative expression has never been more alive. Today, I’m channeling that energy into teaching, creating, and sharing my tiny wares with the world. My work continues to evolve, and I invite you to join me on this new chapter of exploration and discovery. Whether in my classes, workshops, or through my miniature creations, I aim to share the joy of pottery in all its forms. Thank you for supporting this journey. I hope you find as much joy in my tiny pots as I do in making them.
