As a child, I looked for fairies in my backyard and marveled at all the magic in the world. As an adult, I worry about climate change and the loss of wilderness habitat at the hands of greedy corporate interests. As an artist, I want to connect these threads through an exploration of the ways the small and mundane can be magical. I want to inspire people to reconnect to whimsy so that we can co-create a future where the natural world is protected and humanity exists in balance with our environment. Through the relatively slow practice of embroidery, I build a sense of depth of texture and movement to offer up the immersive experience of a miniature world in each individual work. The meditative act of embroidery translates into the mindful presence I want each work to inspire in its viewer. Through this state of calm observation, I invite my audience to connect with their inner child and with their own sense of whimsy and imagination. Through creative reimagining, we can begin to dream of alternative futures that preserve our delicate ecosystems for future generations.
