My art practice is influenced by the act of “zooming in” whilst in nature, focusing on the creatures that are small and quiet. Whether on a hiking trail or in my own backyard, creatures and flora that might otherwise have been overlooked are thus brought into focus. My porcelain sculptures are depictions of these creatures that are generally passed by, hidden or unnoticed. They have an inherent magical quality to them that ignites my curiosity and imagination, and through the addition of fungi and plant life, the animal grows into a whimsical interpretation of the real thing. This body of work is the result of a lifelong appreciation of the natural world, and the wonder that can be experienced if one looks close enough.
