Sabrina Skinner

I have always been fascinated with magic and folklore, the simplicity of plant and animal life, and the pleasure found in mundane human experiences. From man-made knicknacks to ancient trees, life has inherent beauty, even in its decay; through art, I seek to preserve that ephemeral state and to study it. Using clay and other media, I try to document my memories or feelings which I associate with the objects or environments I've encountered. In these ways, by creating art that makes what was once fleeting, solid and whole, I hope to bring to life a kind of nostalgic magic, in its full authenticity. These works loosley represent elements of folklore, symbolic imagery, and depicting historic social issues/culture through tactile art- specifically through the natural world and human connections to home and comfort. Incorporating interactive scale, texture, and a combination of trompe l'oeil and abstraction styles, my work is guided by nostalgia and personal sensory based memories undone.
