My parents always wondered my love of cats came from. They were dog people. But my first stuffed animal - that I chose - was a cat. And for my 5th birthday, I demanded a cat. (We got 2 because my older brother wisely decided that he needed one too.) I currently have the privilege of teaching a kids ceramics handbuilding class, one day per week, during which I have been inspired to make pieces that are cat-centric to spur on the cat vs dog debate in the room. A cat cup. A bowl with a cat on the bottom. A kitty bank... And most recently, a series of pinch-pot mini-baskets with handles upon which tiny, grey kitties live. They are meant to be whimsical and sweet and to bring a smile to the viewer or user's face.
