Faye Hadfield

Faye Hadfield's artwork embodies a raw and rustic quality that celebrates the unique features of clay as a material. Her collection of porcelain reduction-fired egg cups pays tribute to her roots in northern England and the country's rich cultural heritage. After moving to the United States, Faye was surprised to find that this common breakfast utensil was not a common thing to have at home. As a child, her family often enjoyed eggs and soldiers, otherwise known as dippy eggs. The egg would sit inside the cup while the soldiers, or toast sticks slathered in butter, would accompany the dish. The goal was to dip the soldiers into the soft-boiled egg. This new line of work explores gestural mark-making and serves as a gateway to future creations, while also paying homage to home and English breakfast traditions.
