Jason Eiler

Jason Eiler is a ceramic artist based in Chicago, Illinois’ Humboldt Park neighborhood. They focus on static yet visually animated functional sculptures while exploring concepts like balance and disharmony. Joyous contemplations of familiarity, belonging, and shared memory are woven with the drudgery of displacement; abandonment and alienation; intergenerational trauma, its subsequent scarring; and malignant misinformation. These dynamics are relayed through the clay’s individual attributes, applied texture and color, as well as the firing process itself. Their work is almost exclusively fired in atmospheric kilns and is predominantly wood fired which allows the work to explore the aforementioned meditations. The process balances the traditional natural elements of earth, water, air, metal, wood and fire and allows further exploration of ethereal components like time, memory, and spirit.
