I have been working with clay as a medium for nearly three decades, there is always something new and/or exciting to discover and learn. Three years ago I left wheel throwing, due to an injury. I have fallen in love with sculpture and hand-building methods in the years since. I enjoy using pattern and color tones to create an interesting vessel. Most recently I discovered Nerikumi (a decorative process established in Japan) which involves stacking colored clay and then slicing through the cross section to reveal a pattern, which can then be used as decoration. It is the creation and planning of this block of clay that I enjoy the most. I have. found multi-toned work to simpler to glaze because I prefer light translucent or clear to allow the clay to be the focus. I studied graphic design at Carnegie Mellon University in my hometown of Pittsburgh before moving west to the San Francisco Bay Area and then back east to Central New Jersey.
