Izzi Rothman
As an individual with disability, I frequently encounter hesitancy from others manifested in visible discomfort, awkward silences, or outright avoidance when broaching discussions about my health. This enduring sense of otherness has spurred my contemplation of how we assign value, observing how perspectives undergo transformation with a deeper grasp of diverse experiences, and ultimately exploring how materials can embody the disabled narrative. My work illustrates the relationship between strength and fragility through delicate connections, transforming or mending discarded materials, and illuminating adaptability in adverse conditions. By making work strictly on topics avoided throughout my life, I aim to create conversation and connection- ultimately resulting in change for accessibility and diversity in craft.
