Elizabeth Scutt

Using clay I have harvested off my family’s property in Western Pennsylvania, I create one-of-a-kind works that display a soothing sense of tactility. My current body of work is a series of small sculptures titled “Pet Rocks.” These pieces are hollow creatures meant to bring whimsy into the viewer’s lives and invite them to experience art hands-on through handling the sculptures. Using tactility as a way to engage an audience, I think of these pieces as fidget toys with personality. They are my way of connecting people through touch. In a world where everything is increasingly digital, I want these pieces to be a way for people to center themselves in the physical world in a positive way.
