Maria Loram

I create minimalist, abstract, yet functional ceramic pieces, offering a tactile exploration of the physicality of our world. Curiosity is the driving force behind my work, while its philosophical background is linked to my experience of this world. My curiosity compels me to explore various methods—whether through meticulous glaze research, locally foraged materials, or a painterly approach to surface decoration—as I commune with the Earth and translate its message. Through my art, I investigate the space where the boundary between life and death merges, and where organic materials coexist in a continuum with the non-organic. My pieces serve as a link, connecting the viewer to nature—be it the Earth we see, the cosmic worlds yet undiscovered, or the broader definition of nature we are all part of. My work aims to evoke both serenity and awe at the universe’s majesty, while the earthy wabi-sabi aesthetic—rooted in the place where I grew up—celebrates the beauty of imperfection and simplicity.
