According to the National Geographic, “Evolutionary adaptation is the adjustment of organisms to their environment in order to improve their chances at survival in that environment.” I play with this phenomenon through the premise of intergalactic transplants co-mingling in our world’s various biomes. These plant-like creatures are highly social, and cultivate mutually beneficial colonies in their newfound home, only to ultimately be collected as specimens for hobbyists and institutions alike to study and appreciate. As a mixed-race tomboy I never fit into typical American standards, and the older I became the more obvious it became to me that being atypical was considered threatening to the many people I would meet along the way. I resorted to studying the world as described through science and humanities to try to make sense of what was happening around me.
