I enjoy exploring the interface between uncertainty in form, surface and space creating sculptural and functional pieces. My sculptural work emerges from saggar firing techniques and paper clay. Each piece is a personal exploration in pushing the limits of tradition, building lightweight scaffolding structures from paper clay and experimenting with fire, organic material, and combustion environments. Saggar firing is a creative journey that mixes the process of wrapping materials, from seaweed to volatile chemicals and firing ceramics to 1300-1600F. Counterbalancing my sculptural work are functional pieces that focus on bringing the uncertainty of nature and the world we live in - to the table with earth tone spoons, bowls, and serving dishes for dinner tables and cooking tabletops.
