I work functionally and sculpturally using both wheel throwing and hand building techniques. I appreciate the technical nature of wheel throwing and improving my throwing ability through the exploration of elegant forms, and I also add sculptural elements to create thrown and altered pieces. My sculptural work tends to focus on curvature, bumps, and depressions and invites the audience to feel or touch the pieces. The serendipity of wood firing and the path of ash and flames plays well with these smooth globular surfaces.
