Thomas Hubben

Thomas Hubben Tom is a working industrial designer with a background in ceramics and painting. He has a BFA in ceramic sculpture from Penn State University. His work in ceramics has come to embrace the vessel as a sculptural vehicle. Mining its deep history and exploring the myriad ways that vessels can be constructed and presented is the framework of his practice. The pieces here demonstrate an improvisational approach to exploring open and closed forms, texture, and what makes an interesting and unique piece of ceramic sculpture. The big question being, "What can be done using an infinitely variable material like clay, and through the process of forming and firing, create a permanent object that animates the connection between internal and external."
