The focus of my work is functional salt-fired pottery that is based on religious metaphor and mathematical qualities. My work is influenced by the biblical context of salt, the logical reasoning of mathematics, and how I live my life in faith. Mathematical linework dominates the surface of each piece. Whether it's the foot ring, the slip, the lip, the handle, or the form, there's a line giving us information about the nature of the ceramic object. Alteration of the rigid lines speaks to how the definition of faith breaks our understanding of logical reasoning. The salt application on the pots acts as a preservation tool, while also giving them a sharp shine. We can see ourselves as salt, to be a positive influence on others.
