Connor McGaughran

Connor McGaughran is a multidisciplinary artist whose work has a strong emphasis on nihilism and the macabre. His work varies in form, but exists mainly as ceramic, collage, sculpture, and photography. He began his professional studies in Fine Art in 2022 and is currently earning his BFA in Art and Design. Within his practice, he is focused on his own self-amusement and is learning as an adult how to have fun for the first time. Connor can be described as very anxious or angry in a tense and overly controlling way. He has always held himself to impossibly high standards professionally, academically, and in his personal life. His professional practice challenges him to relinquish control and let the chaos take over. He uses art as an outlet to work and play at the same time. Ripping up bibles and photos, painting objects solid black, and making a mess in the clay are all very childish and chaotic in nature. His art making process is a way for his inner child to finally come out and experience fun, while the professional practice allows his mature self to feel that same sense of fulfillment.
