Margaret Weinberg
Creating in clay is so intriguing, also challenging as well as intrinsically satisfying for me. Clay is not only a medium of contrasts, but also of harmonies. Experiences with clay are cerebral/intuitive; physical/sensual; well-planned/spontaneous; predictable/unexpected; exhausting/exhilarating, and more. The notions, reflections and thoughts that lurk and sometimes dance in my head give rise to doodles and small sketches which insist on being realized and expressed in clay. Revisions continue as ideas meet reality. My work is mostly functional. I hand-build in stoneware, slip decorate at times, bisque fire, and glaze fire to cone 6. [2232F].
Since I have moved to Charleston, I have been fascinated by my coastal surroundings: nature, creatures, beach treasures, heightening my sensitivity to form, texture, composition, color, and intensities. All of this and more is finding expression in my work with clay.
