Sidney Mesa

My work explores themes of memory, trauma, illness, and the relationship between myself and my inner child. My body of work centers around material and the ways in which past and memory relate to said material. Materiality and the physical interactions I have to the materials I work in – whether sculptural, two-dimensional, or textile-based – are essential to my process. Soft aesthetics, dark humor, whimsy, poetry, and performative acts are often incorporated into my pieces. Through these methods, I aim to achieve a sense of catharsis for my inner child and return home to myself.
